In 2009 Sam Henwood, a time served steam engineer, started trading under his own name as a sole trader. Initially working on site from the back of a small van. Sam pushed himself to make customer service and quality engineering his 2 main objectives. Word soon spread of a 21 year old keen to fulfil customers engineering needs and his business and customer base grew and grew. This resulted in the need for extra person power and subcontractors - including some members who Sam had served his apprenticeship time with - came onboard working again beside him. Experience was much gained as work not only rolled in from his home county of Cornwall but further afield in the rest of the UK. International work soon came too as Sam broke into the New Zealand market in 2014.
After 9 years of hard, but successful, work Sam decided the time was right to start trading as Henwood Engineering Ltd. Today’s Business sees a team of around 10 members providing a one stop shop for total traction engine restoration also offering many services in general engineering and the heritage railways sector.
